De Erasmus Hall High School, vaak de 'moeder van de middelbare scholen' genoemd, begon in 1787 als een kleine particuliere academie met een inschrijving van zesentwintig jongens. Het originele houten academiegebouw, een mooi voorbeeld van koloniale architectuur met zijn handgesneden balken en dakspanen, staat in het midden van een vierhoek met klimoptorens. Op 19 oktober 1908 werd een contract gegund aan de M.P. Möller Company uit Hagerstown, Md. voor de installatie van een orgel in de kapel van Erasmus Hall High School. De koper stemde ermee in om de som van $ 7.450 contant te betalen. Een handgeschreven record laat zien dat het orgel 15.300 pond woog en op 23 februari 1909 werd verscheept, via de Pennsylvania Rail Road naar Brooklyn. Het drieklaviers- en pedaalorgel was geïnstalleerd in een grote kamer die uitkwam op het rechterbalkon, en omvatte een verplaatsbare vrijstaande en omgekeerde toetstafel van eikenhout met schuin geplaatste knoppen.
